Candy Lab

1. Why is it better to have only 2 choices at each step instead of more?
It is better to only have 2 because you have a 50% chance of getting it and it easier with only two choices instead of a bunch.
2. What problems did you encounter in using the dichotomous key? Be specific and discuss fully.
We had problems with the Fire Ball and the Jaw Breaker, cause they are both hard candy and on the key then we went to the bottom and it said on was on a stick well none of them were on a stick or not on a stick so we got confused there.
3. How did you resolve your problems in #2?
We double checked our sources and then reasoned with the two, also we figured the one out so then we figured that the other on must be the one that was left, then we found the right answers to both of them.
4. Do classification keys go from general to specific characteristics or from specific to general characteristics? Explain why.
In the classification key it goes from General to Specific characteristics.
5. What does the first and second part of the Latin name represent in the scientific name of the organism?
It is the Latin the name given to the genus and the second name is the species name and it is also in Latin.
6. Research Carolus Linnaeus his contribution to modern classification.
Carl focused on taxonomy and Binomial nomerclature and used a naming system for plants and animals an ordered hierarchy, Carl used latin as the base language. He made groups so that it would be easier to group the animals and plants.
7. What is a dichotomous key? (define)
It is a tool that allows the user to determine the identity of items in the natural world. Keys consist of choices that lead the user to the correct name of the item.
8. What is binomial nomenclature? (define)
Is the system used to identify all organisms on Earth, A binomial or scientific name identifies an organism by its genus and species. Also it fits within the larger framework of taxonomy.
9. Briefly describe how classification has changed before and after Linnaeus. Research Aristotle...
It change because the first classification was made by Aristotle, Aristotle's way was he grouped animals in to a 2 or 3 group system and he made them into groups that way. When Linnaeus put them into one group and it was a much easier way of classifying things.
10. List the order of classification groups from Kingdom down to species.
kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species

Homeostasis Lab

Procedure-

Before Catherine went to work out we took her book pressure, pulse, and temp.

Then we headed out the classroom and down stairs to time Catherine running for 4 minutes around the quart yard inside the school…There was a huge change in everything. Even in the skin, It spotted red, but yet she wasn’t sweating?

1. The changes that went through the experiment was Catherine's Blood Pressure, pulse, and temperature before and after running. Before running her blood pressure was low, her pulse was normal and her temperature was normal. But after running her blood pressure was high, her pulse was not normal, and her temperature was high then normal.
Her temperature increased by 2 degrees, her Blood Pressure increased, her Pulse increased by 53 beats per minute. Also after her running her skin had a red spotting on it, and she was sweating but not much.
2. Those things help maintain equilibrium by making you sweat, raise your heart rate and blood pressure, and to make your pulse go faster.
3. Sweating happens when the body wants to maintain the body temperature.
4. It helps because temperature makes you sweat and you could lose weight, your the higher your pulse is the faster your heart beats and pumps blood so it makes your heart stronger.
5.The conclusion is that when you exercise that you make your heart stronger and your body, but your blood pressure rises and so does your heart rate which pumps the blood faster making you breath more and so when you exercise that is why you lose your breath. Also your temperature rises so you sweat to cool your self down.

Brown Hydra are heterotrophs.
Brown Hydra are commonly found in the Northern Hemisphere and parts of Australia
Brown Hydra is a hatchery nuisance because it may kill fish fry.
They also have well developed powers of regeneration and grafting.
